Vista Bank Integrates RoPay Alias: Money Transfers Between Individuals Using Only a Phone Number, via Mobile Banking
Januery 12, 2026
Vista Bank expands its digital services with a new feature: RoPay Alias – payment using only a phone number through the national instant payment system RoPay developed by TRANSFOND. RoPay Alias complements the RoPay services offered by Vista Bank to individuals – RoPay Contactless and RoPay QR Code, launched this summer.
The new service allows individual clients to send and receive amounts in RON directly from their mobile banking apps, without needing additional account details such as IBAN or account holder name. Payments are instant, secure, and intuitive, using only the phone number.
"With RoPay Alias, everything becomes more convenient, safer, and more efficient: you send and receive money using just a phone number, in a few seconds, anytime and anywhere, at zero cost. Launching this feature in Vista Mobile Banking strengthens our commitment to delivering high-performance, secure, and always-available digital solutions. We are delighted to offer clients a modern solution that meets the need for speed and simplicity in everyday transactions. I would like to thank my colleagues who contributed to implementing this project, as well as the TRANSFOND and Getik teams for their involvement and professionalism during the integration process of the new solution," – said Raluca Dobre, Alternative Channels and Transformation Manager, Vista Bank.
“The launch of RoPay Alias in the Vista Bank ecosystem marks another important step in the modernization and simplification of payments in Romania. We are pleased to see the growing interest from banks in adopting RoPay services and expanding the use of instant payments. RoPay Alias provides an intuitive and secure experience through which customers can initiate and receive payments using only their phone number, without additional account details. The collaboration with Vista Bank has been excellent, and the fast, successful implementation once again confirms the Romanian banking industry’s ability to innovate and respond to the real needs of clients. We welcome Vista Bank customers to a market of approximately 8 million banking clients in Romania, where continuous real‑time payments available year‑round have become a useful, simple, and secure reality.” – added Razvan Faer, Head of Development, TRANSFOND.
How Does RoPay Alias Work?
1. Receive Money via a Payment Request
You can request money from a friend quickly and easily through a RoPay Alias transaction. Send your friend a payment request via RoPay using only their phone number. The Payer receives a push notification from their mobile banking app, checks the name returned by SANB – Beneficiary Name Display Service – and authorizes the payment. The payer can also adjust the amount if you enabled this option in your request.
2. Send Money Using Only a Phone Number
To make payments in RON, RoPay Alias offers two methods:
- First method: Follow the usual payment flow: select the account you want to pay from, and instead of entering an IBAN, choose “New Payment RoPay Alias.” Enter the Beneficiary’s phone number, verify the name displayed by SANB, and authorize the transfer. Payments can be instant for amounts up to 49,999 RON or processed normally for amounts exceeding this limit.
- Second method: Pay quickly based on a payment request received from the Beneficiary. Open the notification generated automatically by the Vista Mobile Banking app, review the payment details, and follow the same steps as in the first method.
The RoPay Alias service works only between individual accounts opened at banks enrolled in this service. See the list of participating banks here.
Advantages of RoPay Alias

- Secure – Each RoPay Alias transaction is processed through enrolled banks’ mobile banking apps and benefits from automatic Beneficiary name verification via SANB.
